Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars First Reactions Are Officially In

Following the film's world premiere event in London, many users took to Twitter to share their first reactions to The Dog Stars. Phil Roberts, Editor of Future of the Force, praised the sci-fi adaptation as being a "surprisingly humble and emotionally weighted change of pace" for Scott, hailing "its impressive cinematography, endless desolation and magnetic performances from Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin." Podcast host Patrick Tomasso was similarly enthusiastic in his response to the film, describing it as a "soothing and grueling" journey through the post-apocalypse. Also likening it to "a Western set at the end of the world with a big heart," Tomasso teased the film comes with "some intense FURY ROAD energy mixed with quiet campfires under the stars," and saying that Scott "knows what we want." FILMHOUNDS Magazine Editor-in-Chief Gavin Spoors confessed that the film "took me by surprise," praising its director for having "proven yet again that his finger is on the pulse when it comes to current themes." Though denoting that the film can be "slow" in parts, it is still "consistently engaging" and features plenty of "smart editing" to keep viewers hooked into its "warm, human, post-apocalyptic drama about the need for community." Liz Slade similarly shared that she "really enjoyed" Scott's Dog Stars adaptation, being taken aback by how "quiet and contemplative" the proceedings are, while still coming with "unexpected moments of ferocity and violence." Slade went on to praise Harry Gregson-Williams' score as being "particularly beautiful," and the star-studded cast being "excellent," concluding with the feeling that "Scott has created something unique," complete with "a wonderful dog!" UK journalist Tom Davidson began by confessing that he "had low expectations" going into The Dog Stars, which turned out "far better than I expected."
