It's coming off a hit game, Resident Evil Requiem, which was a critical and commercial success, as well as the feature film directed by Zach Cregger. But at this point the series has grown into a massive hydra, full of works that date all the way back to Resident Evil 1 in 1996.The timeline has undergone some changes since then, as Capcom opted to streamline things with a remake universe. On Reddit, fans clearly have strong feelings about the future of Resident Evil, especially when it comes to Leon Kennedy's replacement. With Resident Evil Requiem in the rearview, fans are looking ahead and asking who the protagonist of Resident Evil 10 will be. It's entirely possible Leon could come back, but fans want to see Chris Redfield make a huge appearance in the remake-era aesthetic. Droves of people want a massive team-up: "Chris, if they go the dual protagonists route like with Requiem, then Chris & Jill. RE10 is definitely dealing with the BSAA civil war they were setting up since 8." A few are hoping that Grace comes back: "I know Grace's story has felt like it was ended well, but I hope to play as her again; her VA did a good job, and I feel like it wouldn't hurt to see more of her in one more game at least. Personally, I liked that she wasn't a badass who brushed off the insane things that were happening; she acted like anyone would in the RE world." Select folks are sick of Leon: "No more Leon. Let the man have a break for a while. He's been in R2make, R4make, Requiem, all of the animated films. Bring back characters that aren't used as often or haven't in a long time." Some fans want a return to the family ties of Ethan, of Resident Evil 7 and 8 fame: "Really want to see what Rose Winters has been up to, especially after the ending of the Shadows of Rose DLC. I know it takes place like a full decade after RE9, but surely that’s nothing a time skip couldn’t fix. Time for the OG cast to start kicking ass with gray hairs." Others have more out-there ideas, including the return of Jake, the son of Wesker: "I so want Jake Muller redeemed joining alongside Jill Valentine & Claire Redfield! As the son of Wesker, his powers need to be unlocked for good against all sorts of viruses. Still would be nice to introduce a new character too." Jake hasn't been completely eliminated from Resident Evil, either. Although Resident Evil Survival Unit on mobile isn't canon, Jake does appear as a party member. There is plenty on the way for Resident Evil in the future. Requiem isn't done yet, and DLC is still scheduled to be released. Then there's Resident Evil Veronica, announced earlier this year and headed for PC and consoles in 2027.
