Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers. Despite launching back in February, Resident Evil 9, more commonly known as Resident Evil Requiem, remains a contender for Game of the Year, and for very good reason. Still sitting at an incredibly impressive 9.3 User Score on Metacritic, Resident Evil Requiem took fans back to Raccoon City as veteran Leon Kennedy teamed up with brand-new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, in order to investigate the mysterious deaths of survivors linked to the incident that occurred back in 1998. Here at Screen Rant, our very own Chris Carter awarded Resident Evil Requiem a near-perfect 9/10, with his review reading: Still, playing as two characters that are this starkly different from each other is an experiment that paid off, and worked out far better than it did with Resident Evil 6. Capcom has thrills down to a science at this point, and Resident Evil Requiem delivers. Long-time fans are going to get more out of this entry than the previous two, and the development team seems to have mastered the first-person perspective. Here's hoping a VR mode comes eventually. Thanks to its dark themes, dual protagonists, and mix of survival horror and action, Resident Evil Requiem met critical acclaim, and quickly became the best-selling Resident Evil entry of all time. Now, eight months on, and talk of a sequel has already got fans interested. At the time of writing, director Koshi Nakanishi and writer Haris Orkin have confirmed that a major story DLC will be released for Resident Evil Requiem, although an official release date has not yet been confirmed. However, in a recent interview with Yahoo! Japan, Resident Evil executive producer Jun Takeuchi spilled the beans on what the future of the beloved survival horror franchise looks like following the success of Resi 9. Unfortunately, Takeuchi revealed something that shocked fans. Despite this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of the very first Resident Evil game, the executive producer has now announced that the conclusion of the franchise's story could come within the next ten years. Put simply, there are still further games planned, but it seems as though Capcom actually has an end goal for Resident Evil, and it could happen in the next decade. Of course, nothing can last forever, but it is hard to believe that the beloved survival horror franchise will come to an end so soon, especially as it is one of the most successful in the genre. “The series' story wasn't planned out from the beginning; it expanded with each new game," Takeuchi explained. "When we were planning RE:2 and creating a 10-year branding concept, this was the most challenging aspect. If you play through all of them, I think you'll realize the meaning behind the order of the remakes. "With the release of Requiem this year, I feel like the first 10 years have come to a close, so I think the conclusion will come in the next 10 years. I can't say (how many games will release in that time), because it would spoil the fun for everyone, but there won't be just one. There will be multiple titles.” So, there you have it. We may be in the twilight years of the Resident Evil franchise, so let us hope the upcoming installments make the beloved franchise go out with a bang.
