Netflix just got a six-movie-long update to its Resident Evil catalog, which is perfectly timed both for the time of year, and given the franchise's next upcoming addition is on the near horizon. While Resident Evil is first and foremost a game series - and one of the most popular game series in the horror genre, to boot - the franchise has had a wide assortment of films over the years, with its first releasing all the way back in 2002. The Resident Evil movie series has, like many decades-long horror movie franchises, had its ups and downs along the way, with the franchise's larger-than-life setting and characters having much potential when it comes to film adaptations, but sometimes meaning that releases don't quite hit the mark for fans in terms of replicating the same level of thrills and scares that can be found in the games. That said, with the next chapter of Resident Evil's film efforts only weeks away - and with the film roster having plenty of vested fans for each and every instalment - it's well worth watching through the movie selection in order to form your own opinions on each addition, especially now the film side of the franchise has come to Netflix in a major way as of the past few days. Six Resident Evil Movies Just Became Available On Netflix As always, the start of another month has also marked Netflix refreshing its streaming library, which has involved a range of movies and shows leaving the platform, and a fair roster arriving on the platform too. Fittingly, much of this early library looks to help tee the platform up for the Halloween season, with a fair share of horror and horror-esque releases emerging on the streaming service as the month begins. One of the biggest horror additions to Netflix as of September 1st was that of the platform's addition of a considerable number of the Resident Evil game series' movie spinoffs. This includes Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, Resident Evil: Damnation, Resident Evil: Vendetta, and Resident Evil: Death Island, comprising almost two decades of the franchise's film history (as per What's On Netflix). Notably, this lineup also features both live-action films and animated Resident Evil installments, ensuring that those who want to watch the movie adaptations of the iconic horror game series have a range of different formats they can do so in. While this is perfect for Halloween, the timing of this release is also fitting given what the franchise has coming for it on the horizon, too. Netflix's Resident Evil Movie Update Is Perfectly Timed For The Upcoming 2026 Film Bringing this roster of Resident Evil films to Netflix right before October and Halloween is a wise move in of itself, but the timing of this decision is strengthened by the upcoming release of 2026's Resident Evil movie, which is set to release later this month thanks to its September 18, 2026 theatrical debut date. While the 2026 Resident Evil movie is set up to be a standalone reboot for the franchise and its big screen world, it's sure to be a film that leaves audiences curious about the bigger picture regarding what movies came before it, making the Netflix additions all the smarter. Similarly, those particularly eager to see the new 2026 Resident Evil movie can also occupy themselves for the time being with these other chapters, making Netflix adding these other Resident Evil films to its roster even wiser of a call overall.
