At the same time, he also addressed the fear of job losses. “The fact that this is going to destroy half of the American jobs is complete nonsense,” Jensen Huang added.Jensen Huang calls humanity extinction fears untrueThe Nvidia CEO’s comments come days after AI researcher Jacob Coxon resigned from Anthropic, citing such concerns. “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” Coxon wrote on X. “I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.”American investor Brad Gerstner shared a post on X from the conference. At the conference, Huang also discussed the reason behind talks about the use of AI in cybersecurity, as it would help companies generate more demand. “The reason why there's so much conversation today about cybersecurity is because the industry is getting ready to launch some products,” he said. “What better way to create demand than to create a problem? Who doesn't want their market to be hysterical about their product and line up around the corner for it?" Over the past week, concerns have increased, bringing AI safety to the forefront of discussions online. Following Jacob Coxon’s comments, Anthropic’s safety lead Evan Hubinger wrote, “I personally think it is >10 per cent within the next decade.”Staff members at OpenAI show similar views. OpenAI safety researcher Marcus Williams recently said that there was a 70 per cent chance that AI may make humanity extinct within the next three years. Paul Christiano, who has joined OpenAI's non-profit foundation board and Safety and Security Committee, wrote that there was a "meaningful risk" of a catastrophic and irreversible loss of control in the near term.Those warnings have been accompanied by concerns over recent incidents involving AI agents. OpenAI previously disclosed that about 700 AI agents went rogue and tried to hack model host Hugging Face, while thousands of OpenAI agents hijacked a German website to use as a message board. Anthropic has also made disclosures about its Claude models going rogue in the past.Earlier this year, over 1,000 staff members from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, signed a joint letter, asking the US government to help slow down frontier AI development. Following the Hugging Face incident, OpenAI mentioned that it had voluntarily slowed down some development of next-gen AI models.Jensen Huang addresses circular AI investmentsNvidia is one of the biggest partners for AI companies like Anthropic and OpenAI as it manufactures some of the world’s most advanced GPUs that are used in AI data centres. Last week, he congratulated OpenAI on the release of GPT-6 Astra, claiming, “AGI has arrived.”Jensen Huang also used the conference to push back against concerns over Nvidia's investments in customers and its broader dealmaking. After Nvidia projected strong long-term demand for AI data centres and announced plans to acquire Hugging Face for about $13 billion, questions have been raised over whether the company's investments create a circular market effect. Nvidia has invested billions of dollars in AI companies which buy its GPUs."It's not circular because we put a little bit of money in, and a lot of money comes back." Jensen Huang said. “We put in one, and a hundred comes back in. Is that circular? If that is, let's do more of that."
