Reform conference hit by protests as hecklers are carried out of Farage speech and Greenpeace sneaks in banner attacking Net Zero opposition

See more Daily Mail on Google - save us as a Preferred Source Published: 11:57 EDT, 4 September 2026 | Updated: 12:38 EDT, 4 September 2026 Reform UK's conference was targeted by protests today as Nigel Farage was repeatedly heckled as he spoke to supporters.Four people were ejected from the hall in Birmingham for attempts to disrupt proceedings, with the speech having been delayed over a security scare.It came after Greenpeace climate protesters managed to sneak a banner on to the main stage showing Mr Farage along with the slogan 'collect £5million, burn the planet' while deputy leader Richard Tice was speaking.Depicting the party leader in a top hat and carrying a bag of money, it remained visible for several minutes before being taken down.After a second protester attempted to interrupt his speech, Mr Farage quipped: 'I think next year we'll put the price of the tickets up, don't you?'And when a third heckler tried to shout over him, the Reform leader added: 'These are the benefits of a university education. I bet she's studying... tell us love is it sociology? I bet it is.' Greenpeace said this claim was a factor in placing the 'remote control banner' behind him.Amy Cameron, its UK programme director, said: 'Tice wants to celebrate this summer's relentless heatwaves and droughts because they're improving English sparkling wine. 'But the only thing being toasted in England is our farmland, and the only way you could miss that is if you're paid not to notice.'Reform disguise themselves as champions of ordinary people, but they're funded by billionaires who profit from keeping us hooked on oil and gas, while the rest of us deal with the catastrophic climate consequences.'Last week Reform's Robert Jenrick urged the Government to 'drop your net zero dogma' to bring down energy bills.After Ofgem announced a 4 per cent price cap hike from October, the Treasury spokesman told a London press conference: 'This is going to be a very difficult period ahead. Households are being battered by energy price increases. Energy prices will have risen by 17 per cent since April alone.'My message to John Healey and Andy Burnham is very simple: drop your net zero dogma.'Do what Reform have proposed. Get rid of the green taxes and levies that have been ladled onto people's energy bills by stealth.'If you do that… you will save the average household £200 off their energy bill.'I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone would want to put net zero ideology above the interests of British people this winter, who are going to find life very, very tough.'
