Rare WASP spider ‘as big as a credit card’ is starting to spread in England – as new string of sightings recorded

A GIANT wasp spider that can camouflage itself has started to spread across England. The rare spider with a wasp-like body has been found more than 100 miles from its usual habitat. The little critters have been spotted across England Credit: Patrick Hofer Conservationists believe the distinctive insects are now spreading across the country and have urged Brits to be on the look out. The unusual insects were first recorded in Worcestershire in 2025 and have again been spotted in the county in the past few weeks. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The insects mimic spiders and have distinctive black, yellow and white stripes. There have also been sightings of the little critters in Herefordshire and Warwickshire, according to Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. Wendy Carter from the trust said people should not be alarmed by the spider’s size. She told The Worcester News: “In the last week or two, we’ve heard of them as far west as Suckley and as far north as Feckenham with a scattering of sightings in and around Worcester. “We’d encourage anyone who spots one to take a photo and let us know via a short form on our website so that we can track the spread of these amazing-looking spiders.” While the wasp spider can look terrifying, they are harmless to humans. Most read in The Sun According to the British Arachnological Society, the bodies of female wasp spiders can grow to about 2cm in length, while males are typically much smaller at about 0.5cm.
