The allegation came after a confrontation on Ashoka Road when police personnel attempted to remove one of the women protesters from the sit-in.There was no immediate reaction from the Congress to the BJP's allegation.The protest was held over the issue of alleged 'vote chori' and to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a day after opposition MPs staged an eight-hour dharna seeking a meeting with the Election Commissioners.BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari posted a video clip of the incident on X and criticised Gandhi. "In his eagerness to make a reel, Rahul Gandhi attempts to push a female police personnel," he said. The opposition MPs had planned to hold the protest at Jantar Mantar, but police stopped them at a roundabout on Ashoka Road. The decision to march towards Jantar Mantar came after a solidarity lunch hosted by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.Soon after the lunch, the MPs boarded buses and set out towards Jantar Mantar. Some leaders climbed onto the roofs of the buses carrying the tricolour as the procession moved from Janpath towards the protest site, bringing the high-security area to a halt for the second consecutive day. The confrontation escalated after the buses were stopped by security personnel. Rahul Gandhi, his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other INDIA bloc leaders were later forcibly removed by the police and detained.MPs from the Congress, TMC, CPI(M), CPI, RJD, IUML and some other parties joined the protest, while Samajwadi Party MPs were not present.- Ends
