Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a Tarantino alternate-reality historical movie about a fading television actor and his stunt double trying to make it in 1960s Los Angeles, at the time when the Manson Family was rising in power. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the fading TV star, Rick Dalton, as he tries to secure his place in a changing Hollywood landscape, while Brad Pitt stars as Cliff Booth, his stunt double, who is just getting by the best way he knows how. When Booth ends up crossing paths with the Manson Family, the story spirals into a bloody finale that changes everything about those killers' most horrifying moment. In 2026, there are two sequels coming out for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with a Netflix original movie and a novel. The movie is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, with David Fincher directing from a Tarantino script. According to Tarantino, the idea of making the sequel didn't interest him anymore. "It just kind of unenthused me as we went forward until I finally just pulled the plug." Tarantino also said that he loves the script that he wrote, but he doesn't like "walking down the same ground that I've already walked." He also said that he prefers challenges, and this movie didn't supply him with a "ceiling for me to hit the head of my talent on." Tarantino's 10-Movie Rule Is A Problem There is one other reason that Tarantino chose not to direct The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. He said that he will retire from directing movies when he makes his 10th movie. This is because he has said that too many directors don't know when to quit, and they keep making movies that are not as good as what they did before. He wants to leave before that happens to him. However, there is a huge problem with this. The number 10 was self-imposed and has nothing to do with whether Tarantino can make great movies after that or not. Furthermore, there are so many great movies he could have made over the last seven years, but nothing has happened because he wants his final movie to be a perfect choice since it will be his last. "This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory and have an idea how I’m going to pull it off, but not really know. And there has to be something to achieve." Tarantino said that he wants his final movie to take him into "uncharted territory," and that has led him to go seven years without making a movie. He could easily have made 12 or 13 movies and never lost a step, and the movie world would be better for it.
