Qatar’s former PM urges decisive support for Saudi Arabia after airport attack

Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani has called on Gulf states to put their differences aside following today’s attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid airport. Qatar’s former prime minister said the attack made it “more urgent than ever” to support Saudi Arabia in a “practical and decisive” manner. “It has now become clear that Iran is our primary adversary”, he wrote on X. He warned that the Gulf Cooperation Council faces “several hostile plots and conspiracies” requiring “unity and profound foresight”. Al Thani said it was “more urgent and evident” that Qatar stands alongside Saudi Arabia against the “threat from within Yemen”, which he described as being “plotted and directed from outside [Yemen]”. He urged GCC members to respond by “demonstrating unity”, saying the situation “necessitates setting aside all peripheral disputes”. Al Thani led Qatar’s government from 2007 to 2013 and also held the foreign affairs portfolio for much of that time.
