Qatar joins seven countries in rejecting Israeli Gaza displacement plans

Qatar joined seven countries in condemning Israeli plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza as a violation of international law and threat to regional stability.Qatar joined Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Egypt and Türkiye in issuing the joint statement on Sunday, following remarks by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Defence Minister Israel Katz.The eight countries described the proposals as a “flagrant violation” of international law and a direct threat to the rights of the Palestinian people, while stressing that such efforts to forcibly remove Palestinians from their land could further undermine regional stability.Ben Gvir unveiled further details of his “Disengagement 710” proposal as part of his campaign ahead of Israel’s Knesset election. Under what he describes as “voluntary emigration,” the plan aims for 250,000 Palestinians to leave Gaza in its first year, rising to 1.11 million within three years and approximately 1.86 million within seven.The joint statement rejected any attempt to displace Palestinians inside or outside the occupied Palestinian territory and said such proposals challenge international efforts to end Israel’s war on Gaza, including US President Donald Trump’s current plan, which rejects forced displacement.Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, alongside the foreign ministers of the participating countries, reiterated that Gaza is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory and stressed the need to preserve the territorial unity of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.The ministers also urged the UN Security Council and the wider international community to oppose attempts to impose a new demographic or geographic reality on the occupied Palestinian territory, while reaffirming support for an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
