The Greek delegation was led by the Director of the Department of Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs at Greece’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Foivos Georgakakis. Both sides said the initiative builds on the momentum from Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s April 2026 visit to Athens, which helped strengthen ties between the two countries. The proposed dialogue will focus on converting shared priorities into practical cooperation across trade and investment, defence and security, technology and innovation, public health, culture, sports and education. Beyond bilateral cooperation, Qatar and Greece reaffirmed their commitment to promoting regional and international peace and stability through diplomacy and dialogue. The two countries also reiterated their commitment to international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, while emphasising the importance of freedom of navigation and maritime security, particularly along vital international shipping routes. The joint statement highlighted both countries’ shared interest in strengthening their roles as reliable international partners and contributing to regional and global stability. Qatar and Greece said the annual strategic dialogue would mark a new chapter in bilateral relations, providing a platform for continued engagement and cooperation aimed at delivering mutual benefits for both countries.
