The new space opera was originally released in theaters on June 5, coming to Prime Video around the world a little over a month later, on July 22. The first major milestone passed by Masters of the Universe, and the one that confirmed the space opera as an instant streaming success, was that after only a day on the streaming service, Masters of the Universe became the most-watched movie on Prime Video worldwide, according to FlixPatrol. Masters of the Universe recorded 1.173 billion minutes watched for its first week on the streaming service, as per Nielsen. Now, at 50 days on Prime Video's Top 10 Movies chart in the US, the space opera finds itself as the 7th most-watched movie on Prime Video nationwide, still hanging on to the streamer's chart. Masters of the Universe ranks higher than movies like Samuel L. Jackson's crime thriller Damaged, Jon Bernthal's spy thriller The Amateur, and Ryan Gosling's hard sci-fi Project Hail Mary on Prime Video. The Sequel Still Has A Few Hurdles To Overcome Masters of the Universe's streaming success on Prime Video is a good sign that Amazon MGM Studios could move forward with a sequel for the He-Man movie. However, the bridge has yet to be crossed, as some elements need to be worked out. After all, before it became an enduring streaming hit, Masters of the Universe was a box office bomb. The sci-fi fantasy movie ended its theatrical run with $113.8 million against a hefty reported budget of $170 million.
