Police tag 37,932 children to ensure safety during Tirumala Brahmotsavams

As part of a major child-safety initiative during the ongoing nine-day annual Brahmotsavams, the Tirupati district police have tagged 37,932 children in the last four days to ensure their swift identification and safe reunion with their families. The child-tagging drive, launched on Tuesday (September 15), is part of the police’s special security arrangements for the annual festival, which draws large numbers of devotees to Tirumala. The identification tags carry details that can help police and security personnel quickly trace a child and establish contact with the parents or guardian. The initiative has already demonstrated its utility by assisting the police in tracing three children who were separated from their families in the crowds and safely returning them to their parents. The police have intensified surveillance in crowded areas and deployed personnel to keep a close watch on children, considering the large congregation during the festival. They also urged parents and guardians to keep their children close and to ensure that the tags remain securely attached throughout their visit. Police appealed to the devotees to immediately alert the nearest police or security personnel in case a child goes missing. The child-tagging initiative forms part of the wider crowd-management and security measures being implemented during the Brahmotsavams, with particular focus on protecting vulnerable pilgrims amid the heavy movement of devotees.
