Pokemon TCG Pocket's Big Changes Don't Include The One Thing Players Actually Want DeNA Published Oct 16, 2026, 2:51 AM EDT Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. Sign in to your TheGamer account Pokemon TCG Pocket is about to enter its third year, having been released at the end of October 2024. Developer DeNA has been listening to feedback and just detailed all of the big changes coming to the mobile game in year three. The problem is, those changes don’t address the one big feature that almost every player seems to want. Sets Every Six Weeks And Mission-Based Immersive Rares Dena DeNA shared a statement through Pocket’s Twitter account detailing everything about the game that will be changed in the coming weeks and months. The biggest change is the frequency with which new sets are added, shifting from once a month to a new expansion every six weeks. Other changes and new features coming to Pocket include immersive cards that can be obtained by completing missions, a new set focused on First Partners that will require a special currency to obtain, and Community Decks, which will let you see popular decks among your friends so that you can use them to build your own. Still No Universal Pack Points Dena All positive changes, but as demonstrated by the replies to the laundry list of changes, there’s no mention of the two things Pocket players have been crying out for for months. The biggest is Universal Pack Points. The more packs you open in Pocket, the more points you accrue. Those points can then be exchanged for cards. Helpful for when there’s a gap or two in your collection so you don’t have to keep fruitlessly ripping open packs in the hope you’ll eventually find them. What prevents that feature from being much more helpful is that pack points are separately assigned to each pack. That means, for example, the points you get opening Team Rocket’s Ambition packs can’t then be spent on cards from the Ruler of the Skies. Making pack points universal is the one big request Pocket players have been making for months. Unfortunately, even though DeNA is using the start of a new year for Pocket to make wholesale changes, those requests have been ignored. As have the requests for a dark mode, which is the thing players have been asking for almost as much as they’ve been asking for universal pack points. You’d think dark mode could be something that’s easily implemented to get DeNA some easy goodwill with players. Apparently not. Even though players aren’t getting the two things they actually want, there are still a lot more changes than the ones I’ve already mentioned coming to Pocket. The virtual TCG’s year three roadmap also includes the addition of one-star promo cards, new rental decks will now be added at the same time as new booster packs are released, and battle events with rules limiting card eligibility are coming. There are also plans to make trading and sharing easier, including giving players the ability to check which cards their friends need rather than relying on their limited wishlists.
