Sign in to your ScreenRant account Released as a spin-off to the mainline Pokémon video game series, Pokémon Colosseum launched in the early 2000s for the GameCube. Unlike previous installments that would allow players to encounter random Pokémon on their travels, Colosseum introduced a unique feature where players could "snag" other Trainer's 'mons, and engage in both single-player and multiplayer battles. The story follows Wes, a former member of Team Snagem (I see what you did there), operating in the Orre desert region. Throughout his journey, Wes must rescue "Shadow Pokémon" — Pokémon who have had their hearts darkened by Team Cipher — by "snagging" them from fellow Trainers. Luckily, he is joined by Rui, who is able to identify which 'mons have been afflicted with a darkened heart. At launch, Pokémon Colosseum was met with both critical and commercial success, even going on to welcome a sequel, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, in 2005. Now, over two decades on from its initial launch, and Pokémon Colosseum is set to return after Nintendo confirmed that it would be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2 as part of the Classics library. However, it seems as though some Pokémon fans are less than pleased with the news. That is because, as pointed out by one user over on r/PokemonColosseum, it has been over a year since Nintendo first revealed that the hit title would be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. "It’s now a year since the Nintendo Direct where we were shown that Pokémon Colosseum would be added to Nintendo GameCube Classics on Switch 2," the post reads. "Wonder what the hold up is, especially as XD came out already. Hoping they’re somehow adding the extra Pokémon for all, or maybe Home compatibility?" As you can imagine, it was not long before fellow fans came forward with their own theories as to the mysterious delay, with one user sharing, "XD was shown before Colosseum in that presentation. They definitely just felt XD was better to do first, whether that's because of theming or mechanics/polish or being generally easier than Colosseum — that's my take, anyway." Another added, "My theory is that it’s for something to do with the save feature. If you ever played the original, you know you can only save at PCs, and with the load state function in the glorified emulator, that totally changes how hard the game is. So I wonder if they are trying to find a way to circumvent it." As a reminder, these are the current GameCube games available via Nintendo Switch Online: Chibi-Robo! F-Zero GX Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Luigi's Mansion Mario Smash Football (Super Mario Strikers in North America) Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Soulcalibur II Star Fox Adventures Super Mario Sunshine The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker Wario World At the time of writing, Nintendo is yet to release an update on the estimated release date for Pokémon Colosseum for the Nintendo Switch 2. However, we can only hope that fans are correct, and improvements on the original are being worked on behind the scenes. FIngers crossed.
