PNP–CIDG: No warrant for Romualdez yet, but ready to implement mandate

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP–CIDG) said the Sandiganbayan has yet to issue a warrant for the arrest of presidential cousin and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez. The Office of the Ombudsman charged Leyte’s representative with plunder, which was raffled to the court’s Third Division earlier on Monday. Robert Morico II said in a text message to reporters on Monday afternoon. “But, if ever one will be issued, we shall do our duty and mandate to implement the same,” he added. Romualdez is accused of allegedly receiving P7.44 billion worth of kickbacks from flood control, infrastructure, and other government projects from 2022 to 2025.
