The last week of gaming news has been incredibly busy thanks to Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase and the long-awaited reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6’s gameplay. You’d think that means we get a little bit of a break, but that isn’t looking like it’s going to be the case any time soon this year. Not only do we have some major releases coming up in the next few weeks like The Blood of Dawnwalker, Wolverine, and Onimusha, but there are bound to be even more showcases with plenty of news. September is usually home to a State of Play, something that a reliable insider has backed up and suggested is coming soon. It Looks Like We’re Getting A State Of Play Very Soon I Wonder If Sony Will Address Its Physical Release Controversy... Over on Twitter, NateTheHate, one of the most reliable insiders in gaming at the moment, replied to a comment asking if there’s any update on a State of Play in September. Nate confirmed that he’s still working to confirm a date, but that it’s looking “incredibly likely” and should happen “soon”. That’s not too much of a surprise considering we usually get a State of Play in September anyway, but it is interesting considering what we know of PlayStation’s lineup. Outside of God of War Laufey, which already has a release date, there are really only a few games we haven’t seen for a while that could appear, like Intergalactic, the rumoured Venom game, and maybe even Spider-Man 3. That being said, Wolverine is releasing in September, so I imagine Insomniac will want all eyes on Logan and not on the future. There’s also a small possibility that Sony takes the chance to address concerns about its ongoing physical release controversy. While we have heard a bit from investors' calls, the backlash has been so loud and the options kept so mysterious that we’ll surely need some kind of explanation and reassurance sooner rather than later. For now, all we can do is wait for more information about the State of Play itself, but at least it sounds like we’re definitely getting something in the near future.
