Ape Escape Is Reportedly Set For A Return, But It's Not Developed By Who You'd Expect Published Oct 1, 2026, 2:00 PM EDT Joshua Robertson is an editor for TheGamer, having working in news, guides, features, and reviews since 2022. Sign in to your TheGamer account PlayStation has quite a lot of dormant franchises that it could easily turn to if it wanted to spice up its first party offerings. You have the likes of Killzone and Infamous if you want something gritty, or Sly Cooper and Ape Escape if you want something more family friendly. It's a treasure trove of beloved IP, but one of them might finally have their time in the sun sooner rather than later. According to insider NateTheHate, who is about as reliable as you can get in the industry these days — having leaked several high-profile titles like Star Fox and Ocarina of Time remake — PlayStation is planning to bring back Ape Escape. Ape Escape Is Potentially About To Make A Comeback NateTheHate delivered this bombshell via ResetEra, in which he also claims that Astro Bot developer Team Asobi won't be the developer behind the title. Team Asobi would be a fantastic fit for the IP, especially with how they knocked it out of the park with its Ape Escape-themed level in Astro Bot, but it sounds as though PlayStation is giving the IP to a different developer. He doesn't mention who this developer will be, or even if it's a first party studio, but he does claim that Bandai Namco won't be involved in the project, as far as he knows. However, he does claim that he'll have to "check further to be 100% certain" as it's been a while since he's heard anything about the project recently. Regardless, it's nice to hear that Ape Escape could potentially be making a grand return soon, and it makes sense with how often it's appeared in other games recently, such as Astro Bot and the recent Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Now, all we need to do is cross our fingers and pray that it's a single-player platformer like the old games, instead of some horrid live service abomination that could very well be dead and buried less than a month after release.
