Peter Gabriel Survives Apocalypse, Silo Showrunner Confirms

Wait! Stop! Don't go any further! Are you all caught up on Silo, the big post-apocalyptic sci-fi show on Apple TV+. Or failing that, do you not care what happens on Silo? I've never seen an episode of the show, but this blog post evidently deals in some major-spoiler plot twists that have implications much deeper than what you already read in the headline. It's not a mere idle hypothetical for Silo creator and showrunner Graham Yost to speculate that 76-year-old art-rock great Peter Gabriel would make it through the fictional apocalypse just fine.The season finale of Silo is set to air on Friday, and last week's episode ended with a major plot moment: A flashback to the public unveiling of the silos. During that moment, Peter Gabriel himself made a surprise appearance, singing "Here Comes The Flood," his 1986 song about an apocalyptic catastrophe. Previous episodes of the show used Gabriel's songs "Red Rain" and "Come Talk To Me," but Gabriel didn't appear on the show to sing those songs. On the most recent episode, by contrast, one of the characters was literally like, "Is that Peter Gabriel?"Silo creator Graham Yost, who I know best as the man behind motherfucking Justified, talked to Mashable about that episode, including the Peter Gabriel cameo. Evidently, Gabriel and his family make it into silo 17 just before a nuclear blast, which means there's some chance that Steve Zahn's future-timeline character Jimmy is one of Gabriel's distant descendants. When asked about that theory, Yost says, "I can canonically confirm. There's a non-zero chance. We did not actually walk that through. There are some family bloodlines that we have discussed." Yost goes on to admit that Gabriel's song choice was "a little on the nose." Also, Gabriel and his family are apparently fans of the show. Here's what Yost says about getting Gabriel to appear:[Gabriel and I] got to know each other through the show. I'd approached him about something in Season 1, and it didn't work out. But we connected, and we'd been talking about other things. He ended up watching the show with his family, and they loved it. So I said, "Would you do this thing?" He said, "Yeah, I'm free. Can I bring my son, and can he can he bring his girlfriend?" I said, "Sure." So that's his son and his son's girlfriend at the side of the stage.Will Smith, the showrunner on Slow Horses, he and I bonded over Peter Gabriel back in the early days of Slow Horses. So I told him, "Hey, you've got to come to set on this day." He'd been one other day because it's a fun set to visit, but this was outside. I didn't tell him [about Peter Gabriel]. We were walking from his car to set, and Peter's coming the other way to go to his trailer, and [Smith] says, "Is that him?" I said, "Yeah." He said, "Fuck me." So we got to hang out with Peter and his son and his son's girlfriend, just making a TV show. That was a fun day...And the song, "Here Comes the Flood." Reed Birney said to me on the day, "it's a little on the nose, isn't it?" I said, "Reed, we're doing a TV show. It is."
