Peter Burns: LSU fans 'should be pissed' at No. 14 ranking in College Football Playoff

SEC Network’s Peter Burns said LSU should have the biggest gripe with the College Football Playoff committee after the initial rankings. The Tigers came in at No. 14 in the first CFP top 25 Tuesday night. That by no means says LSU is out of the College Football Playoff race. But it was a curious spot, according to Burns. The teams directly in front of the Tigers are No. 13 Tennessee, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 10 Ole Miss (who beat LSU head to head). $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage “I would say maybe the biggest gripe should be LSU at 14,” Burns said on SEC This Morning. “You destroyed Clemson at the beginning of the season. You lost to a top 10 team, Ole Miss, by one score in a heated rivalry game in their place. You lost to a top 10 team, Kentucky, by one point on the road, and yet you’re 14. “Like so, there is not a bad loss. You blew out your conference non-conference power four opponent. You crushed Clemson in the opener, and you’ve looked dominant pretty much against every single other team, and yet you’re ranked 14th. Like that, to me, if I’m complaining to them this morning, LSU fans should be pissed off at No. 14.” Head coach Lane Kiffin spoke prior to the CFP rankings being released. This week, he noted how it’s awesome to play meaningful football in November. Kiffin preached patience at the start of the year, despite remaking the entire roster and not to expect national titles right off the bat. But, LSU is in a spot where they can get into the playoff and perhaps make a run! “I think November meaningful games — I don’t mean arrogantly, that’s what we’ve been used to for a lot of years now, really every year,” Kiffin said. “I’m glad that that’s where we are right now. We should be in even better position, and you guys know the game that haunts that, the position we’re in. “It is what it is, and there’s less margin for error than we would have. So, we’ve got to be on everything, and we’ve got to make sure that we perform really well against a really good team that’s coached really well and has really good players. You see them, and they look like old Alabama teams as far as their size and length and explosiveness, the skill positions on offense and the quarterback. We’re going to have to play really well because I do think this is the most talented team that we’ve played so far when you take the 22, not just the quarterback.”
