Person seriously hurt at 400-person Castle Street student party

A person has been hospitalised after a large student party on Dunedin's Castle Street.Castle Street is notorious for parties - being home to many University of Otago students.The Otago Daily Times reported up to 400 people were at the party - and it was in celebration of "school reunion" day.The ODT said one person was taken out of a flat with a head injury.Hato Hone St John said it was called to the incident at 10.34am on Sunday."We responded with one rapid response vehicle. One patient was assessed at the scene and was transported to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition."In a statement, Dunedin Police said it was aware of - and monitored - the event."Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing."The University of Otago told The ODT the party was not organised by the university."The university understands there are many people at the event who are not Otago university students and who are from outside of Dunedin," it told The ODT.
