Permanent campervan ban is EXPANDED in UK seaside hotspot after string of complaints

A BAN on campervans in a popular seaside resort is to be extended following complaints from residents. It has been reported that some visitors have been parking up near houses in the coastal town and using garden hedges to dry their laundry. It was originally introduced as a temporary ban in 2024 and made permanent this spring. This has now been extended to include several areas in the coastal resort, which is popular with campervan owners. The new ban will now also prohibit all motor caravans from parking on Belvedere Road, Holbeck Road, Esplanade Crescent, and Sea Cliff Road. This is a year-round ban and will be enforced between 11pm and 7am. Officials at North Yorkshire Council said the extension of the ban was necessary following a “displacement of problems”. Councillor Rich Maw told the BBC that residents in affected streets had reported “waking up to campervans outside their windows, disposing of grey water, and hanging up laundry on their hedges”. Earlier this year, the council’s executive member for highways and transport, Malcolm Taylor, said authorities needed to strike a balance between supporting tourism and addressing concerns from local communities.
