People Moves: Obusek Hired by Examination Resources as a Senior Manager

A longtime North Carolina insurance regulator, the woman who initially flagged billionaire Greg Lindberg’s raiding of his insurance companies’ reserves, plans to join an examination firm as a senior manager. Jackie Obusek, who spent 30 years with the North Carolina Department of Insurance, including the last six as chief deputy insurance commissioner, will retire from the DOI Oct. 1. She will then become senior managing director of strategy and operations for Examination Resources, an Atlanta-based firm that provides examination services for regulators, Captive Insurance Times reported. Obusek Examination Resources works with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners on accreditation and consults with state regulator departments on financially troubled insurance companies and receiverships, the company and the Times explained. Obusek, who also is a certified public accountant, may be best remembered for her role in bringing down Lindberg, who this year was sentenced to 12 years in prison for siphoning $12 million from his Carolina-based life insurance companies. In 2015, Obusek raised concerns about Lindberg’s business practices, noting that Lindberg’s insurance companies had made an inordinate amount of investments in his affiliated companies. Lindberg, objecting to Obusek’s plan to limit the amount that the insurance firms could invest in his other enterprises, attempted to bribe NC Insurance Commissioner Causey with heavy campaign contributions in exchange for more relaxed regulations. Causey had worn a microphone during the meetings with Lindberg, and Lindberg was later convicted twice of attempted bribery. Was this article valuable? Thank you!
