PATRICK Clancy’s new wife has revealed she is pregnant with their first child during their first emotional TV interview. But the blockbuster case ended in a dramatic mistrial earlier this month after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict following seven days of deliberations. The trial was described on 60 Minutes as a “national obsession”. At the beginning of the interview with correspondent Ross Douthat, Patrick said it was in the October before the deaths that she first went a few nights without sleep. He said, “I didn’t know how to manage a postpartum illness. I’m sure there are things I didn’t see.” He spoke about how rebuilt a life in the shadow of unbearable grief. Patrick admitted he was suicidal after living through the horror, not knowing whether he would make it to his 35th birthday. Most read in The Sun Callan’s heart kept beating for four days before he was eventually declared dead. “That night I really thought that we had a chance for Callan to live,” Patrick explained, adding, “Just gimme one kid and I would raise him as best I could.” Through tears he said he told him, “I’m so sorry.” “I got to hold him, I got to lay down next to him, and he died in my arms.” He insisted Lindsay is not a “monster” and if he didn’t forgive her he would be “eaten up inside, forever.” Patrick said she never asked for his forgiveness, but he gave it to her. He also spoke about having to take to the stand during the trial, and how he had a “massive, traumatic panic attack” when they played the 911 call in the courtroom. “My heart was pounding and they put me in an ambulance,” he said. “They offered me some medication, but I said, I don’t want it, I want to go back and I want to finish this. So I can be done with this. I went back and I finished the testimony.” Lindsay’s anxiety had worsened after the birth of her third child, Callan, and she was prescribed medications including Zoloft and Ativan. Her treatment continued to change as her insomnia and anxiety became more severe. As Lindsay struggled, her parents began coming from Connecticut to help with the children while Patrick worked from a home office. Her private writings later described a months-long decline in her mental health. By December, Lindsay had told Patrick about suicidal thoughts and unwanted thoughts of harming the children, and she was admitted to McLean Hospital for several days. After returning home, Patrick believed she was improving. I live with it every day. But I think I did the best I could.” He also said, “I asked her if she remembered it. She said it was like a dream. “I try not to think about that night, very often.” She later told him in an emotional phone call that she had heard a man’s voice ordering her to kill the children and then kill herself. Patrick, who took to the stand during the trial, has also faced a torrent of baseless conspiracy theories from internet sleuths, including wild claims that he was somehow involved in the murders. Online detectives picked apart his movements on the night of the killings, his divorce from Lindsay and his new relationship and marriage to Rachel. There is no evidence Patrick had anything to do with the children’s deaths, and he has never been charged with any crime. His lawyers have fiercely hit back at the claims, warning those spreading false allegations that they could face legal action. Rachel defended her husband as she addressed the intense scrutiny during the interview, saying, “I don’t understand how the story’s been so twisted. “But I would hope people know that Pat is, as I said before, the most selfless father and supportive partner.” Talking about when they met in February 2024, she said, “And I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday. “And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.” The couple went on to marry in April this year after Patrick relocated to New York months after the tragedy. Patrick also opened up about the devastating grief he continues to live with and claimed he still speaks to his children. “I talk to them all the time,” he told Douthat. Asked what he says to them, Patrick said, “Help me. All the time.” “Do they help you?” Douthat asked, to which Patrick replied, “I like to believe they do. “It’s a way I stay connected to them.” Patrick’s harrowing 911 call was played during Lindsay’s trial, with Patrick heard desperately trying to save his children after finding them with exercise bands around their necks. Lindsay’s own defense team has backed Patrick and pointed to the 911 call as evidence of his credibility amid the online speculation. The 60 Minutes interview comes as prosecutors continue to weigh whether Lindsay will face a second murder trial in the coming months.
