Panathur underpass flooding prompts drainage inspection in low-lying areas

The Panathur Railway Underbridge was flooded following heavy rain. | Photo Credit: File photo A day after the Panathur Railway Underbridge was flooded following heavy rain, officials from the East City Corporation on Monday (September 21) inspected the underpass and other vulnerable and low-lying stretches, directing officials to improve drainage arrangements and prevent water stagnation. The Panathur S-Cross Railway Underpass was flooded following the rain on September 19 night, with water reaching high levels and several vehicles getting stuck.During Monday’s inspection, Additional Commissioner Lokhande Snehal Sudhakar directed officials to immediately clear the silt and mud accumulated inside the underpass and ensure that the water-pumping systems remain functional. Officials were also asked to check and clean the manholes connected to the drainage system installed by K-RIDE and remove accumulated silt and mud. In the B-SMILE buffer road area, Mr. Sudhakar directed officials to identify points where the flow of rainwater is obstructed and construct drains wherever necessary to prevent water stagnation. In Munnekollala, officials were asked to clear mud, silt and waste from the stormwater drain and monitor it regularly to prevent fresh accumulation while at Croma Road, where ongoing drain work has led to objections over disruption to road connectivity, the Additional Commissioner directed officials to continue and complete the work at the earliest.
