Pagasa: Habagat rains to affect Luzon, Visayas areas

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau warned that heavy rains may affect areas in Central and Southern Luzon, as well as Visayas on Thursday, Sept. 10, amid the continued effects of the southwest monsoon, or “habagat.” In its 5 a.m. weather advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the southwest monsoon may bring occasional rains over Metro Manila and the following areas in Luzon: The rest of Central Luzon Pangasinan La Union Benguet Isabela Nueva Vizcaya Quirino Rizal Cavite Batangas Oriental Mindoro Occidental Mindoro In its issued heavy rainfall outlook, the affected areas may experience up to 100 millimeters (mm) of rain on Thursday, according to Pagasa. Article continues after this advertisement The weather bureau warned that flooding may occur in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers, while landslides are possible in highly susceptible areas. Likewise, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over Visayas, the rest of Luzon, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao. The rest of Mindanao, on the other hand, may be affected by partly cloudy to cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms.
