Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg can all be backed at 9-1, with Viktor Hovland next best at 11-1. You can never be sure what you will get from Aberg and Hovland these days, but there are also question marks over the two Englishmen. Fleetwood won here in 2017, starred alongside Francesco Molinari in the all-conquering Moliwood partnership at the Ryder Cup a year later, and bagged a silver medal when the Olympics were staged at Le Golf National in 2024. But he sandwiched his 2017 victory with five missed cuts, and has not played the French Open since 2018 – which was also the last time Fitzpatrick played it. He would be the form choice after finishing sixth at Wentworth last week. But in five previous French Opens he missed the cut three times, and finished outside the top 25 in the other two. The French Open was switched to another venue last year while the Paris Metro was being extended beyond Versailles. But on the last three occasions it was held at Le National, Winther finished eighth, second, and second. His share of 15th last week was his best performance since winning the Danish Open on home soil. So Winther stands out as an each way option again. Guido Migliozzi, an impressive winner here in 2022, also produced his best golf for some time with a top ten at Wentworth. That makes him an interesting contender at 45-1. Another player who crept into the ten last week, Andy Sullivan, boasts a couple of top six finishes at Le National, although both were a few years back. But he is No 8 in the Race to Dubai rankings for a reason, so 50-1 looks fair. And the big priced foursome is rounded off by another player who performed well at Wentworth in Sam Bairstow. He played better than his final position of T27 suggested, and that was his fifth decent effort in his last six outings. Throw in a share of second here in 2024, and 60-1 could represent decent value. And if those prices are not long enough, the 80-1 available for Johannes Veerman and the 110-1 on offer for Paul Waring are worth a second look. Presidents Cup 2026 tips Backing the home team to win by a small margin proved profitable in the Solheim Cup two weeks ago – and it could be a similar story by wagering on a THUMPING home win in this week’s Presidents Cup. The outcome is not really in question. The USA have lost only one of the previous 15 clashes with the Internationals, who look even weaker than usual. A second International victory would represent an even bigger ‘Miracle at Medinah’ than Europe produced with their epic Ryder Cup fightback at the Chicago course in 2012. So let’s just debate how many points the Yanks will win by. They have won the last two matches by eight and five points. Another eight-point victory is a best priced 14-1, with a seven point victory at 12-1. Splitting the stakes – as we did before cashing in on Europe’s two point Solheim victory – looks the way to go again. And remember, the Presidents Cup is played over four days, not three. So get in early. None of the Internationals managed more than two points at Royal Melbourne two years ago. So finishing as their top points scorer should not require any great heroics. Min Woo Lee at 9-1 and Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 16-1 are the value bets. And backing the Americans in the top overall points score market – rather than just the top USA player – offers slightly better odds, with little extra risk. Scottie Scheffler is the obvious favourite at 5-1 – half the odds of any other player. Russell Henley will probably partner the world No 1 at least twice, so I am more interested in his 12-1 quote. Collin Morikawa was one of three Americans to earn four points in Melbourne. With his back problems behind him, the double Major winner could be busy again. So 14-1 is worth considering.
