Odisha Police cracks theft case, secures conviction in just 17 days

Image used for representation | Photo Credit: Getty Images/iStockphoto Odisha Police has cracked a mobile theft case and secured a conviction within 17 days of the matter being reported, a senior officer said Saturday (September 26, 2026).The theft of four mobile phones and two earbuds was registered at Rengali Police Station on September 9, and the accused, Sanatan Kishan (26), was apprehended.Following his interrogation, two phones and an earbud were recovered from his house, said Samarendra Nayak, the investigating officer.The investigation was completed expeditiously; the charge-sheet was submitted on September 19, and charges were framed on September 21.The Lakhanpur court of Civil Judge Jaya Ray sentenced the convict to six months of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 on September 25."The entire process, from registration of the FIR on September 9 to conviction on September 25, was completed in just 17 days. This reflects the commitment of police towards swift probe, professional prosecution follow-up and timely justice to victims," said Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra.
