Noida GST extortion case: Five held for posing as officers, Rs 29 lakh recovered

Five people have been arrested for allegedly posing as GST officials and extorting Rs 29 lakh from a GST consultant in Noida, police said on Wednesday. Police said they have recovered the full amount, including cash and jewellery, along with two cars, uniforms and mobile phones allegedly used in the crime.According to police, the accused stopped the consultant's car on July 20, forced themselves into the vehicle and threatened him over alleged fake e-way bills linked to two firms. They then allegedly demanded Rs 29 lakh and later fled after the money was brought in cash by the victim's brother.Central Noida DCP Shailendra Kumar Singh said, "The Bisrakh police have recovered the entire extorted amount, including Rs 24.50 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 4.50 lakh".He said the consultant was travelling in his car with his pet dog and laptop when the accused allegedly intercepted him near the S Aspire Society by blocking his path with their car. The DCP said, "The accused allegedly intercepted his vehicle near the S Aspire Society by blocking its path with their car. Posing as GST officials, they entered his vehicle and took him along while threatening him over alleged fake e-way bills of two firms".Police said the accused also threatened to have him jailed in connection with the GST matter before demanding the money. Investigation showed that the alleged main accused, Kashish Chauhan alias Ishu, already knew the victim. Police said the two had known each other since 2021, and Chauhan allegedly knew that the victim was involved in GST-related work, which was used to target him. The accused also allegedly used a police sub-inspector's uniform and a Delhi Civil Defence uniform during the crime.Police identified the five arrested men as Chauhan, Rajesh Pawar, Vivek Sharma, Ankit Shahi and Anshul. Chauhan works as a DCPO, or Driver-cum-Pump Operator, at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka, Delhi, while Pawar is associated with Delhi Civil Defence. Sharma had worked at Escort, Manesar, Ballabhgarh. Police said none of the accused is a police personnel.The accused were identified through surveillance, CCTV footage and local intelligence, and were arrested near the ISKCON temple on Jalpur Road, the DCP said.Police said they recovered the full Rs 29 lakh, the two cars, the police sub-inspector and Delhi Civil Defence uniforms, and seven mobile phones allegedly used in the offence.
