Noel Gallagher wipes away tears during Oasis’ emotional 8-minute standing ovation

All the clapping was in honour of the premiere of the documentary Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger, which chronicles last year’s triumphant reunion tour. Directed by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern and written by Steven Knight, the film features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the band’s shows. It also serves as a record of the firebrand siblings’ reconciliation after a period of almost 16 years’ estrangement. With Oasis rumoured to continue touring through 2027, it seems as they’re on stronger footing than ever. And this was evident during the film’s premiere, as Noel became overcome with emotion at the audience’s rapturous applause. The sense of excitement continued throughout the screening as audience members clapped and cheered after live performances, and even singing along to the 1995 hit Champagne Supernova. As the end credits rolled, the audience took to their feet for an eight-minute standing ovation, leaving Liam baffled. ‘Should we f**k off?’ he’s said to have asked, before screenwriter Steven Knight convinced the lads to stay. It had been a day of celebration for Liam and Noel,who were on hand to pose for pictures and sign autographs for excited fans at the event. They then came together for a triumphant photograph together – joining hands which they then raised for the cameras. Dubbing the moment ‘unbelievable,’ giocioni added: ‘What are we experiencing here?’ ‘if he’s crying i’m actually gonna die in the cinema,’ agreed _sabrina_sa. Mandabryce noted that she ‘personally think it’s cute,’ while lovatti_bruno asked: ‘and you’re not?’ Fretted sethellie_sarah: ‘How the heck are we going to cope ???!!!’ The lads were reportedly taken aback by reception to the documentary (Picture: Shutterstock) Earlier that day, the filmmakers had filled in for Liam and Noel at a press event attended by Metro. Although the brothers were nowhere to be seen, those behind the camera insisted that they were ‘beyond satisfied’ with the finished product. Speaking on their reaction to the finished film, the Peaky Blinders writer described them as being ‘very emotional.’ ‘I’m not sure if the filmmaking affected their relationship, but we certainly captured their relationship coming back together,’ said co-director Lovelace. ‘I think the whole world was interested in that 15 years apart, and will it work, and what’s it going to be like? ‘And it was a sort of privilege to be able to see that relationship get closer together, both in rehearsals, but then also throughout the tour, starting in Cardiff and across the tour, you saw that reconciliation happening on stage in front of the world.’ To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Knight explained that the film serves as a very real account of the brothers’ reunion, laid bare for the cameras. ‘The first time that Liam walks into the rehearsal room, the first time that they’re going to perform together for however many years, they haven’t spoken to each other,’ Knight said. ‘We’ve got cameras on that relationship developing for real as their tour [progresses]. ‘The kids become friends. It’s family, and I think that we were very fortunate that that’s what happened, because that’s exactly what we hoped would happen from the beginning. He added: ‘We wanted to make this a film about reconciliation, redemption, and forgiveness.’ It’s a story which continues to unfold, with Noel teasing that Oasis will continue touring next year. He’s not into Oasis any more.’ However, Goldstein continued to push the point, insisting: ‘Oh well, there must be something happening.’ Noel relented, adding: ‘Well let’s put it this way.
