No regret, no apology: Man confesses to wife's murder, threatens 'sugar daddy'

A Guwahati man who hacked his wife to death told police he had “no regret” and “no apology” for the killing and threatened to murder a man he described as his wife’s “sugar daddy” if he was released from prison in the future.The accused, identified as Ramanuj Goswami, who surrendered after allegedly killing his wife, Riya Talukder Goswami, made the remarks while being taken into police custody. A video of his statement has since gone viral.The incident came to light on Monday after police received information that the couple, who lived in Hatigaon after they got married about six months ago, were not responding to repeated calls from their families.A police team reached the residence and found Riya dead. Her severed head was kept inside a refrigerator wrapped in a black plastic bag. Some of her fingers had also been cut off.Investigators also recovered a sharp dao (cleaver), which is suspected to have been used in the killing, while bloodstains were found inside the house. Preliminary assessment suggested that the killing took place between 24 and 48 hours before the body was recovered.Meanwhile, in the viral video, Ramanuj, who works as an Uber driver, says that he has "no regrets and no apology" for killing Riya.As he is taken by a team of police, he threatens to also kill her "sugar daddy.""Yes, I killed her, but if I ever come out of jail in the future, I will also hack her sugar daddy to death," he said, without disclosing the details of the person he was referring to.According to DCP (East) Tabu Ram Pegu, Ramanuj and Riya often quarrelled over the alleged affair, and "during one such altercation, he lost his temper and killed her."Meanwhile, investigators are also examining whether Goswami was under the influence of drugs at the time of the murder.A medical examination later confirmed that he was suffering from HIV and Hepatitis C.
