No protests or gold coffins for Philadelphia police officer shot and killed allegedly because he was white

Philadelphia police officer Shane Seiber was allegedly shot and killed by a black man on Oct. 10 because he was white. It’s a harrowing reminder of not just the dangers that police officers regularly encounter — the same police officers whom Democrats rush to villainize and demonize — but also the deadly anti-white racial bigotry that regularly gets ignored and dismissed. That bigotry and hatred allegedly led Eric Lewis to murder the 10-year police veteran, husband, and father of two young children: a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Seiber and his partner were answering a 911 call about a person with a gun in front of a home in West Philadelphia shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday. Lewis allegedly confronted the officers, walking up behind them and demanding to know why the police were on his porch. Police asked if Lewis lived at the house. The situation escalated, turning violent and deadly. After a brief struggle, Lewis allegedly shot both police officers. Seiber was shot three times. His partner was shot 12 times.TWO PHILADELPHIA COPS SHOT 15 TIMES IN AMBUSH, LEAVING ONE DEAD“Lewis continued to fire as they lay wounded, yelling that he told them to get off his porch, said the source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. “When two other officers arrived at the home shortly after 1 a.m., the source said, they found Seiber and his partner lying unconscious, bleeding from their wounds.” Seiber died a few hours later after being transported to a nearby hospital. While being treated for injuries at a Philadelphia hospital, Lewis spoke to police officers. It was there that he said he shot Seiber and his partner because they were white, according to the police report. Lewis allegedly told a black female police officer that if she had responded instead of the two white policemen, the two “would have just had a conversation.”“They had guns, so I had every right to defend myself,” Lewis said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s account of the police report.Where is the outrage? Where are the demonstrations? A black man allegedly admitted to shooting and murdering a white police officer because of the color of his skin. Based on the sequence described and the reason for the shooting, it seems to fit the textbook definition of racial prejudice and a hate crime.Where is the outrage? Where are the protests and demonstrations (peaceful, of course)? Where is the public outrage? Where is the nonstop media coverage? A death during an interaction with police, motivated by racism, has caused quite a bit of civil unrest in this country over the last 15 years. This is especially true in Philadelphia, particularly West Philadelphia, where this shooting occurred. So, where were the neighborhood marches? Where were the cries for racial equality? Where were the calls to stop racism?Where is the weeping mayor, the gold coffin? Where are the calls for a national reckoning over violence against police by black men? Where are all the things the nation had to repeatedly endure in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, and why are the same kinds of things not happening for Philadelphia police officer Shane Seiber?White police officers’ lives matter If the races had been reversed, if Seiber had been black and Lewis had been white, it is a safe assumption that there would be significantly more national outrage and media coverage. If the races and societal positions had been reversed, if Lewis had been a white police officer and Seiber a black man, the national response to this incident would unquestionably be different. It is long past time to stop pretending otherwise.THIS DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSWOMAN IS HOLDING ‘RESISTANCE LABS’ TO SUBVERT THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATIONWhite people’s deaths at the hands of racists deserve the same kind of moral outrage that liberals, Democrats, socialists, and communists demanded when people such as George Floyd and Michael Brown died. White lives matter, and white police officers’ lives matter. And the despicable, evil racism of a black man allegedly saying he killed someone because that person was white deserves widespread condemnation.Police officers allegedly killed by criminals deserve more media coverage and much more sympathy, compassion, and understanding than career criminals who die in confrontations with police. Unfortunately, far too often, the reverse is true. It is time for a national reckoning with the false and misguided compassion of people in this country who treat criminals who die like heroes while largely ignoring heroes who die.Seiber should still be alive today. He and his surviving family should be shown the sympathy, empathy, and compassion they so rightly deserve.
