It was claimed Ubisoft already had one more Assassin’s Creed remake on the docket after Black Flag Resynced (Ubisoft) Ubisoft has shared some real info on its Assassin’s Creed multiplayer spin-off and teased a Hexe update while shutting down rumours it has more remakes in development. Before Ubisoft had even properly announced Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, it was rumoured that the company already had at least one more Assassin’s Creed remake in the works. This was certainly believable, considering how in vogue video game remakes are and especially after Black Flag Resynced proved very successful at launch. If anything, you’d expect Ubisoft would have greenlit multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes as a result. That’s why it’s rather surprising to hear from Ubisoft that it has no such remakes in the works and is instead prioritising the likes of Assassin’s Creed Hexe, the next mainline entry, and other original, unannounced projects. In a general update on the state of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft acknowledges the queries fans have about future remakes, but states that ‘We currently have no other Assassin’s Creed remake actively in development. ‘Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin’s Creed titles, including projects you haven’t heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories.’ Want GTA 6 news? So, does this mean Black Flag Resynced was just a one-off? No, of course not. Even ignoring how successful it was, Ubisoft admits the ‘door remains open’ on more revisits, adding that it’ll ‘keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back.’ This could indicate updated remasters and re-releases for newer hardware and not just remakes, but any such projects won’t be for a very long time. Ubisoft has far more to say about Codename Invictus, its long gestating multiplayer spin-off. A few months ago, fans were invited to a private session to test out a prototype of the game. According to Ubisoft the responses have been very positive, saying players ‘particularly enjoyed the parkour and verticality of our maps, the dynamic teamplay, and the chance to play as various Assassin’s Creed characters, each with their own skills and playstyles.’ This might be the most insight Ubisoft has offered on Invictus, in the many years since it was first announced, although the lack of any release window suggests it’s still a long way from launching. As for Assassin’s Creed Hexe, Ubisoft doesn’t comment on any of the behind-the-scenes brouhaha that’s been plaguing the game. Earlier this year, it was reported both its creative director and game director had left Ubisoft altogether, while multiple developers were moved onto other projects. Ubisoft only says it’s making ‘steady progress’ on what it describes as a ‘darker Assassin’s Creed experience,’ but it does promise a proper update in 2027. Hopefully, this means an actual trailer and maybe even a release date, with Hexe currently rumoured to be aiming for a June window. The company is incentivised to get at least one new game out next year, since 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of Assassin’s Creed, which Ubisoft plans to celebrate all year with ‘reveals, updates, rewards, and community moments.’ In the meantime, Black Flag Resynced has received one final update that adds a New Game+ and new Nightmare difficulty mode. The bigger surprise, though, is that 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is getting a New Game+ update on November 5. A full breakdown of Ubisoft’s announcements can be found on the official Assassin’s Creed website.
