A new GameCube remaster has just been officially released for the Nintendo Switch, in what is likely the most surprising release this month. There are Nintendo GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online, but access to this special catalog is only available via Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. As such, even if you are subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, you can’t play games like Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, or Luigi’s Mansion on your Nintendo Switch. It’s a disappointing restriction for Switch owners and a measure to encourage an upgrade to Switch 2. New titles are occasionally added to the service, but it seems like not all GameCube titles are restricted to Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. According to a new report by ComicBook, the remaster of a game, originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002, has officially been released for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. This is not a new addition to the GameCube catalog via Nintendo Switch Online, but instead a full game release for both consoles, 24 years later. This came as a surprise, as it was unknown it would arrive for the original Nintendo Switch console. The game in question is Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered, a refreshed take on the 2002 classic for the Nintendo GameCube. The release of the new Godzilla game was planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, but the game wasn’t formally announced for Nintendo Switch. However, owners of the previous generation of Nintendo consoles can now purchase this game. The price on eShop is the same for both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 consoles: $ 30. Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is a 3D arena brawler game, developed by Pipeworks Studios and published by Atari. The title features 12 playable kaiju, each with its own skillsets. Battles in this official return of Godzilla take place in various types of arenas, including urban landscapes. Within cities, you can throw opponents against buildings – or throw buildings at enemy monsters. If you enjoy this type of game or are still hyped with Godzilla Day, this is the game for you. The release of Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered comes at a perfect time, too. Apart from it arriving on November 3, which is recognized as Godzilla Day, it also arrives a few days before the release of Godzilla Minus Zero. The sequel to the critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One is arriving in US theaters on November 6, so if you watch the movie and want to keep that feeling going, picking up the remaster of the 2002 GameCube classic is a great idea. The Godzilla franchise is now 72 years old, following the latest Godzilla Day. The series has gone through tons of ups and downs, as well as completely different interpretations of what the kaiju means, but it has been back in full strength over the past decade. Apart from watching the new (and old) movies, you can celebrate with Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered – even if you only own a Nintendo Switch.
