The collaboration centers on three completely redesigned Air Max Plus sneakers alongside jerseys, T-shirts, caps and a vest.The Nike x One Piece collection begins its international rollout Sept. 4 before a global SNKRS launch Sept. 25. Each of the three Air Max Plus styles is priced at $180, although availability will vary by color and location.The shoes take inspiration from three Devil Fruits featured in “One Piece”: Gomu Gomu no Mi, Ope Ope no Mi and Mera Mera no Mi. Nike replaced the Air Max Plus’ typical upper with new molded patterns based on the fruits’ shapes, colors and supernatural abilities.“We were inspired by the superhuman abilities that are unleashed when One Piece characters eat the Devil Fruits,” Nike Energy Gaming general manager Nick Remlinger said in the brand’s announcement.The purple and neon green Gomu Gomu Air Max Plus represents the fruit associated with series protagonist Monkey D. Luffy. The orange Mera Mera design references the Flame-Flame Fruit, while the red and green Ope Ope version pulls from the fruit wielded by Trafalgar D. Water Law.When does the Nike x One Piece collection come out?The Gomu Gomu Air Max Plus will be offered through a SNKRS preorder in the United States beginning Sept. 25. Nike says select Gomu Gomu apparel will receive a global SNKRS release the same day.The Ope Ope Air Max Plus will arrive earlier at select U.S. and European retailers Sept. 19. Participating U.S. stores include Politics in Dallas, Sole Play locations in Decatur and Lawrenceville, Georgia, Arts & Rec in San Diego and Somewhere in Washington, D.C.The Mera Mera Air Max Plus will not receive a U.S. release based on Nike’s current schedule. That color will be sold through select retailers in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Mexico beginning Sept. 12 before an Australian release in October.What else is included in the collection?“One Piece” manga panels appear across T-shirts designed in the style of classic Nike advertisements. Other pieces feature a joint Nike and “One Piece” logo or a Jolly Roger based on the symbol Luffy draws in the series.Nike also created matching Air Max Plus jerseys and caps for each shoe.
