Next year’s iPhone Pro redesign will drop an important button, per leak

Next year Apple is rumored to have a big redesign coming to the iPhone Pro models, and per a new leak, it may come with the loss of the Action button. Action button reportedly being dropped from iPhone Pro next year for 20th anniversary redesign 2027 brings the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, and all signs indicate Apple has something special planned. Similar to the debut of iPhone X for the 10th anniversary in 2017, Apple may introduce a bold new iPhone design next year. New iPhone Pro models are rumored to get quad-curved displays that wrap around the edges for a visually bezel-free appearance. Screen size is expected to increase too. Now today, a new post from leaker Instant Digital on Weibo says this new design will also come with a loss. Per the post, the Action button will be removed from next year’s iPhone Pro models. The devices will retain a Camera Control button though, similar to iPhone Duo. The leaker says the Action button’s functionality won’t be lost altogether, though. Instead, he says Camera Control will continue to launch the Camera app with a standard press, but a long-press will offer Action button-like functionality. When iPhone Duo dropped the Action button, some users expressed disappointment that the button’s versatility was lost. Our own Chance Miller, for example, said he would gladly give up Camera Control to keep the Action button. It sounds like Apple plans to integrate the two, a pattern that will likely apply to the next-generation iPhone Duo and other future models too.
