New £4million football stadium is coming to UK seaside town – as club to return home for first time in 40 years

PLANS for a brand new £4million football stadium in a UK seaside town are set to be approved. The project would see the ground, which was once home to a football club, host the team for the first time in 40 years. The Norfolk-based Isthmian League team currently play at Wellesley Road Stadium but their original home ground was at Gorleston Recreation Ground. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! The football club plan to use the site for a £4million regeneration project that will see full-sized 3G pitch, stands, floodlights and a clubhouse built. The ground would also feature changing rooms as well as a bar and cafe onsite. Plans for the stadium at the Recreation Ground, where Gorleston FC last played in 1982, would allow for a maximum capacity of 1,300 spectators. Although councillors are expected to back the proposals at next week’s meeting, some locals have objected to the development. Residents have raised concerns over noise levels and the loss of outdoor space for the community, as well as parking issues. However, the majority of locals are in favour of the plan, with over 400 showing support for the scheme. It’s thought that the risk of noise complaints will be mitigated by limiting use of the pitch to certain times of day, with no play between 10:15pm and 8am. Comment now
