Never-before-seen vid shows moment K2 climbers find dying porter at world’s most dangerous peak before leaving him there

THIS is the heartbreaking moment climbers find a dying mountain guide hanging upside-down and decide to leave him to continue a record-breaking ascent. Pakistani porter Muhammad Hassan can be seen hanging upside down from his rope on the sheer snow-covered slope. Footage shows the 2023 record-breaking climb as the team make the agonising choice whether to abandon their record attempt to do everything they can to bring him to safety. They ultimately decide to leave him and continue to the summit, a decision that triggered months of scandal. In the film Savage Mountain, Kristin said when they found Muhammad: “We saw there was something wrong with the rope around his legs. “He was naked on his stomach and his back.” She explained her team made desperate attempts to reach him in the dark. Most read in The Sun Dramatic video shows one climber attempting to secure an ice screw and slipping as they try to get to Muhammad. Kristin said: “People were worried about everything collapsing, so of course no one wanted to stay there.” “I told Lama, we need to do something.” Kristin’s cling partner Tenjen “Lama” Sherpa said: “People were scared. I clipped around 10 people to get closer to the accident. “I picked him up and held his hand. “We were on a big slope with very slippery blue ice. It was a very dangerous place.” Kristin said her team managed to help Muhammad with a new rope but said it would not have been possible for everyone to turn back. A huge avalanche then struck another part of the mountain, where part of Kristin’s team had gone ahead. She and Lama went ahead to find the rest of the team, leaving Muhammad with her cameraman Gabriel. Gabriel said the guide’s condition was already extremely serious when they found him hanging on the mountain. He said: “He was completely frozen. No oxygen, no gloves, no down suit. “I tried to warm him, to move his fingers, tried to give him hot water. “Tried to give him comfort.” He gave him his own oxygen bottle and stayed with Muhammad until he was told they had to leave him behind. A viral video showed mountaineers climbing over his dying body the next morning to complete their climb. Kristin said at the time she was the victim of “hatred” and death threats after celebrating her world record. She wrote on Instagram: “This was no one’s fault, you cannot comment when you do not understand the situation and sending death threats is never okay.’ She said in the new film: “This [viral video] was filmed in the middle of the day, when it was light. “We were there when he fell in the dark. We tried for hours to save him.” An investigation into Muhammad’s death found his expedition company had not made proper checks on his equipment. The company he worked for was forced to stop all expeditions for two years. Comment now
