Netflix's Answer To The X-Files Officially Returns For Season 3 In 2027

A famous alien-focused sci-fi series returns to Netflix with a third season next year. The X-Files paired the successful episodic "monster of the week" formula of the 1990s with a multi-season government conspiracy mythos to create a massive sci-fi phenomenon. Chris Carter's series established a subgenre of its own, using a charismatic protagonist duo, moody lighting, and real-world locations to make the supernatural feel genuinely terrifying. The X-Files' undeniable pop-culture footprint also helped give rise to the concept of "shipping" and sparked a paranoiac skepticism toward authority that influenced subsequent series like Fringe, Lost, and Supernatural. In the wake of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully's investigations, several sci-fi series expanded on the theme of alien life. Fringe served as a direct spiritual successor to The X-Files, leaning into parallel universes and biological anomalies instead of extraterrestrial beings, while Battlestar Galactica opted for a grim look at humanity being hunted by its own cybernetic creations. For a more ground-level perspective, Falling Skies and Colony captured the gritty reality of human resistance movements under alien rule. Meanwhile, The Expanse introduced the terrifying concept of an ancient sentient protomolecule, and the acclaimed 3 Body Problem adapted hard science fiction to chronicle humanity's multi-generational dread of an incoming extraterrestrial armada. Not all popular alien-themed sci-fi series are live-action, though. Next year, one of the wildest takes on human interactions with extraterrestrial life continues with a new season. Dandadan Season 3 Is Coming To Netflix In 2027 Dandadan Season 3 Arrives Next Year On Netflix And Crunchyroll Following the explosive conclusion of season 2, Dandadan season 3 has been officially greenlit. Science SARU is returning to animate the series. Although no specific release date has been confirmed, Dandadan season 3 is scheduled for a global premiere sometime in 2027, returning to streaming on both Netflix and Crunchyroll. While brief European distributor leaks and rumors initially hinted at an early January 2027 release window, those specific dates were officially retracted by the network as a mistake. All the voice cast from the previous two seasons returns, including Shion Wakayama and Abby Trott as Momo Ayase, and Natsuki Hanae and AJ Beckles as Okarun Takakura. Dandadan season 3 is set to adapt the Space Globalists Arc, widely considered to be one of the best storylines in Yukinobu Tatsu's original work. Moving past regular paranormal anomalies, season 3 centers on an extraterrestrial invasion that forces Momo, Okarun, Jiji, and Aira to push their respective psychic and cursed abilities to their limits. This arc introduces crucial new elements to the series' lore, including the arrival of a mysterious alien suit-girl Vamola, a complicated new romantic dynamic, and the powerful new Yokai antagonist, Reiko Kashima. Dandadan Is On Track To Adapt Every Arc At A Reasonable Pace Dandadan Still Has Plenty Of Time To Adapt Its Best Arcs Following the conclusion of Dandadan season 2 and with season 3 mapped out for 2027 to cover the Space Globalists storyline, Yukinobu Tatsu’s original manga still has plenty of content left to adapt. Past chapter 120, Dandadan continues with the school-focused Onbusuman Arc, which gives way to the intense Danmanra Arc, where Okarun's second missing golden ball is trapped in a cursed diorama world. Then, the famous size-shifting Pygmy Princess Arc is followed by the overarching threat of the villain Saint-Germain. With the manga currently pushing past chapter 240, there's easily enough material to fuel multiple additional twelve-episode blocks. Based on Science SARU's current pacing of adapting roughly thirty-five to forty-five Dandadan chapters per season, season 4 would naturally package the smaller Onbusuman narrative with the expansive, combat-heavy Danmanra Arc to form a cohesive, action-heavy sequence. Given the studio's highly efficient production pipeline, this fourth installment would likely target a late 2028 or early 2029 release window. Looking further ahead, Dandadan's potential season 5 would center on the Pygmy Princess storyline and the current Saint-Germain amnesia conflicts. Since that material is still materializing in the weekly Shōnen Jump+ serialization, a fifth Dandadan season would likely aim for a late 2030 or 2031 premiere window.
