Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available. The streaming landscape evolves as one of Netflix's biggest competitors launches a new division. In the late 2000s, Netflix disrupted the entertainment industry with the launch of its digital streaming service after years defending the DVD-by-mail business model. Netflix quickly established global dominance and extended its subscriber base across almost two hundred countries, eventually becoming the world's top streaming giant. Nowadays, to maintain its massive market share against modern competitors, Netflix balances a mix of critically acclaimed original programming with a massive library of licensed content. Several powerful media conglomerates challenge Netflix's market dominance with their own subscription platforms. Disney+'s extensive catalog of pop culture behemoths offer a unique experience for families and die-hard fans of massive franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. Amazon Prime Video bundles premium video access with consumer perks, and Max attracts viewers with prestige dramas and a huge archive of cinematic classics. Services like Paramount+ and Peacock fight for market share through live sports broadcasts and quite complete libraries of evergreen television. Anime has evolved from a niche subculture into a multi-billion dollar phenomenon, which has transformed Japanese animation into a vital staple of modern pop culture and inspired competing streaming platforms to expand their own anime catalogs. However, just like Netflix and streaming in the late 2000s, Crunchyroll beat everyone to the punch by becoming synonymous with anime. Crunchyroll Storyworks also promises a high degree of faithfulness to the creators' original creative vision. Established in March 2025, the Tokyo-based anime production joint venture HAYATE was co-founded by Aniplex and Crunchyroll, designed to fuse Aniplex’s legendary production know-how with Japanese studios and Crunchyroll’s global marketing and distribution muscle.HAYATE's primary mission is to plan and produce premium, high-quality anime exclusively for Crunchyroll's global audience. Since Crunchyroll Storyworks is adapting global stories into anime, Sony's new anime production initiative will speed up projects before passing them to HAYATE for actual physical production and realization in Japan.
