Naftogaz, ORLEN Sign New LNG, $500 Million Petroleum Product Supply Deals

Naftogaz Group and Poland’s ORLEN signed two memoranda during the Carpathian Eight Summit, agreeing to supply Ukraine with three liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes in the first quarter of 2027 and up to $500 million worth of petroleum products, Naftogaz wrote in a press release on Sept. 21. Under the LNG memorandum, the additional volumes are intended to help cover Ukraine’s needs during peak seasonal consumption, Naftogaz wrote in its press release. “Amid ongoing Russian attacks on our domestic production facilities, it is particularly important for us to have reliable sources of gas supply and diversified delivery routes,” the press release quoted Serhii Fedorenko, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Naftogaz. “Cooperation with Ukraine is an important part of ORLEN’s commitment to energy security in Central and Eastern Europe. … We see this as a lasting partnership that serves the interests of both companies,” the press release quoted Ireneusz Fąfara, CEO and President of the Management Board of ORLEN. The second memorandum was signed separately by Ukrnafta, Naftogaz Group’s oil and gas production subsidiary, and provides for petroleum product supplies to the Ukrainian market worth up to $500 million, Naftogaz wrote. The agreement is meant to reinforce the stability of Ukraine’s fuel supply amid a global oil crisis triggered by events in the Middle East. The document also opens the possibility of exporting Ukrainian crude oil for processing at refineries in Central Europe, Naftogaz wrote, adding that the companies are also exploring transferring used fuel tanker trucks from ORLEN to Ukrnafta to help transport petroleum products domestically. Ukraine’s growing network of backup LNG supply corridors Tuesday’s deal is the latest addition to a multi-corridor import system Naftogaz has assembled over roughly the past year, after Russian strikes on domestic gas extraction facilities forced Ukraine to ramp up imports well beyond initial estimates. During the 2025 to 026 heating season, the actual imports of gas reached 6.47 billion cubic meters in 2025, according to an ExPro estimate cited by Kyiv Post in February. The buildout began earlier in 2025, when Naftogaz opened a Trans-Balkan route to import Azerbaijani gas via Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova under its first deal with SOCAR Energy Ukraine. In November 2025, Naftogaz signed a letter of intent with Greece’s DEPA Commercial to open a southern corridor through the ATLANTIC-SEE joint venture, under which US LNG arrives in Greece and travels through Bulgaria, Romania, and Moldova before entering Ukraine as part of the so-called Vertical Corridor. The Poland route ORLEN supplied four LNG shipments moved through the Świnoujście terminal from late 2025 to January 2026, with total Naftogaz-ORLEN supplies through Poland said to reach 1 billion cubic meters in 2026. On Feb. 24, Naftogaz completed its first delivery of US LNG through Germany’s Deutsche ReGas terminal on Rügen Island in the Baltic Sea, arranged with France’s TotalEnergies and transported to Ukraine via Poland. Also, Naftogaz secured 90 million cubic meters of US LNG for February to March delivery through Lithuania’s Klaipėda seaport terminal, arranged with Lithuania’s Ignitis Group — the first time that terminal was used as a direct transit point for Ukrainian supply.
