MVD books crew of 46 private buses in special drive

The Motor Vehicle department (MVD) on Monday (September 28) booked crew members of 46 private buses and imposed fines totalling ₹80,000 during a special drive. The drive was conducted in the wake of frequent complaints about traffic rule violations and unruly behaviour by a section of private bus workers.The drive focussed on Thripunithura and Poothotta. Driving without a licence, non-payment of tax, conducting services without a valid permit and deployment of crew members without a police clearance certificate were among the offences detected during the drive.Ernakulam RTO (enforcement) Biju Issac said strict checks will continue in the coming days to rein in competitive driving that compromises public safety.
