Vijayakumar said aggressive FPI buying, coupled with a short squeeze, pushed the Nifty up 7.58% in a week. FPIs have made net investments of Rs 45,970 crore in the Indian market so far in November. He attributed the shift in foreign investor sentiment to the sell-off in AI-linked stocks in the US and other markets, including South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. Concerns over data centre spending in the US and the possibility of tighter guardrails for artificial intelligence have weighed on these markets, making India, widely viewed as a non-AI trade, more attractive to foreign investors. Vijayakumar added that strong earnings growth in India and attractive valuations among large-cap stocks have further strengthened the country's appeal. FPIs have been buying heavily in index heavyweights across financials, IT, automobiles and telecom.
