MTG Is Getting More Spider-Man With This Leaked Commander Deck

In addition to the 21 that have already been released, we still have four officially confirmed for the Star Trek set, and now a new Spider-Man deck has leaked with a release date set for this December. Very little is known about the contents of this potential Universes Beyond deck, beyond the fact that it is likely to be led by Spider-Man, with back-up Commanders in the form of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, provided that the leaked image is accurate. New Spider-Man Commander Deck Leak Points To December 2026 Release Date Coming via MTGO Saldeo over on Twitter/X, an image showing details for a Spider-Man Commander deck, called Spider-Mania, was revealed, and at the top of the image, there is a release date of December 4, 2026. Most surprising is a breakdown of the numbers, with 50 cards receiving new artwork, 30 of which are new cards and 20 are reprints. All reprints are being taken from the Spider-Man and Marvel Super Heroes sets, which must make this the shortest-ever turnaround for reprints, given that the Marvel set was released only a few months ago. This still leaves a few cards unaccounted for, as the deck is likely to have between 35-38 lands, so with three Commanders, if they're not factored into the 50-card total we just mentioned, then there are around 10-12 cards that aren't receiving new artwork, which could just be returning cards from the set that aren't deemed worthy of new art, such as Sol Ring or Fellwar Stone (or their Marvel-renamed alternatives). No price is listed as part of the leak, but Universes Beyond precons tend to have an MSRP of around $74.99 for the base version and $159.99 for the collector's edition. Why Now & How Many Is Too Many Commander Precons? Simply put, we have to wonder why this deck is coming out now and why it's coming out at the end of a year that has been dominated by Commander precons from sets and the Secret Lair. Given the issues surrounding the release of the Spider-Man set, including the lack of digital rights for MTG Arena and forcing a delay for Lorwyn Eclipsed, it could simply be that this deck was due to release alongside the Spider-Man set but was delayed to this year. As for the quantity of decks this year, there's no easy way to say it, but there's just been too many precons. Not including this deck, there will be 25 Commander precons released in 2026, and that's also not including the collector's editions for each of the Star Trek and Marvel Super Heroes decks. Players are already unhappy with how 2026 has played out, with seven total sets being released, which has meant important sets like Secrets of Strixhaven, The Hobbit, and Reality Fracture don't get much time in the spotlight before we're already moving onto the next one. With precons, the market is just too saturated, and with the ongoing availability issues that Wizards of the Coast is facing, this is just adding to that stress and causing more issues. Time will tell if this leak is legit, but it certainly looks the part for now, and we may hear more about it during the upcoming New York Comic Con panel in October.
