Live Blog Update| Israeli Elections 5 November 2026 07:48 GMT Good morning Middle East Eye readers, Here are the latest developments: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, the separate incidents occurred after the vessels were attempting to pass through an "unauthorised route". South Korea's anti-piracy Cheonghae unit will expand its operations into waters nearby the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report by the Yonhap News Agency citing the Korean Defence Ministry. The government is set to submit a motion to parliament to extend the period of the unit's deployment to the region, which is expected to expire at the end of this year. Israeli president Isaac Herzog warned prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu other senior officials of a "highly explosive and dangerous reality" in the West Bank amid increasing settler violence. Herzog said that the elections in Israel, the US and the Palestinian Authority - which the latter has since been postponed - alongside the olive harvest season are set to "create a highly explosive and dangerous reality". The US sanctioned two individuals and another entity accused of aiding Iran in sourcing man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS). The statement said that sanctions "close off more of the channels Tehran uses to try to rebuild its arsenal and raise the risk for third-country brokers and suppliers". A ballistic missile attack which hit Hayfan in Yemen's Taiz governorate, killed four Yemenis from the same family, including three children, on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Houthi-affiliated media reported that Saudi-led coalition attacks over the past 24 hours have reportedly killed around 20 people across Yemen, including in the provinces of al-Jawf, al-Bayda, Saada, and Taiz.
