Rainfall activity is likely to remain strong across several parts of India on Wednesday, September 2, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rain in parts of central India and heavy showers across several states in the north and east.The forecast comes as a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of north coastal Odisha, Jharkhand and northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and Jharkhand during the next 48 hours.The system is one of the main drivers behind the current spell of widespread rain over central and eastern India.Hilly regions, including Uttarakhand, are also in for an intense monsoon spell as rain picks up. (Photo: PTI) CENTRAL, EASTERN INDIA REMAIN THE TARGETSOn September 2, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh, according to the IMD. Heavy rain is also expected at isolated places throughout Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.The broader seven-day weather forecast by the weather department suggests that the wet spell will not end immediately. East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are expected to see fairly widespread rainfall through the first few days of September, while West Madhya Pradesh is likely to see fairly widespread to widespread rain from September 2 onwards. (Photo: IMD) SOME RAIN IN THE SOUTH TOOThe rain pattern will be more limited over much of peninsular India.The IMD expects isolated to scattered rainfall over coastal parts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while coastal parts of Karnataka is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rain.In western India, Konkan and Goa are expected to remain broadly wet, while Gujarat, parts of Maharashtra and Marathwada are likely to see more scattered showers.
