Moment joyriding balaclava-clad teenage e-bikers leave father-of-seven with life-changing injuries after smashing into him at high speed

Footage showed the pair speeding down the pavement outside an active fire station just moments before they collided with the 46-year-old cyclist. Neither teen was wearing a helmet or protective clothing on the powerful e-bikes. Shortly before 2pm, the pair attempted to overtake a car on Thorntree Road but instead struck the cyclist travelling in the opposite direction.Footage released by Cleveland Police on Tuesday showed the moment the father was thrown from his bike and crashed onto the pavement. A bright green backpack is also seen flying across the road in the clip. One of the e-bike riders is seen fleeing the scene, while the other, who was injured in the collision, remained on the ground. He remains in hospital receiving treatment for his life-changing injuries.Police were able to track down and identify the uninjured e-bike rider through fingerprints he left on the handle of a van as he fled the scene.Both teens were taken into custody and refused to comment in interviews while the cyclist remained in hospital with serious injuries. On September 23, both teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty at Teesside Magistrates Court to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.Both were disqualified from driving, ordered to pay £495 in compensation and were handed a youth referral order.Detective Constable Nichola Lamport, senior investigating officer for the collision investigation unit, said: 'A serious road collision doesn't just affect those who are directly involved. 'It can devastate entire families, leaving them to cope with grief, trauma, financial pressure and consequences that can last a lifetime.'The victim is still in hospital since the collision occurred and has suffered significant life-changing injuries which will affect him and his family for the foreseeable future.'
