Fairfax County prosecutors told the court on Monday that a witness said Cedillos-Campos wanted to kill Carmen Lizet Puch after she exposed their affair to his girlfriend. The witness, identified as a co-worker, shared the information with police following Carmen’s death. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The co-worker alleges that Carmen sent screenshots of their affair to Cedillos-Campos’ girlfriend, which led to him killing her hours later. Cedillos‑Campos, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, is said to have grabbed a kitchen knife, latex gloves and a water bottle from the restaurant on August 17. Around 1:30 am, the witness overheard Cedillos-Campos on the phone organising to meet up with Carmen. Cedillos-Campos allegedly called the co-worker at around 4 am, admitting that “he did it” before abruptly hanging up. According to a criminal complaint obtained by WJLA, the witness interpreted this as Cedillos-Campos confessing to killing Carmen. Police said Carmen and Cedillos-Campos had an “intimate relationship” after working together at Bitez, a halal restaurant in Herndon, Virginia. Most read in The Sun Bitez owner Abdul Anwari told NBC Washington: “I don’t know if you can process something like this. “It’s not something you expect. It’s not something that anyone would ever want to happen. A jogger called police after discovering Carmen’s dead body around 6:45 am lying next to her 2011 Honda Civic in a Difficult Run Park in Great Falls, Virginia. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said: “Our victim suffered numerous stab wounds in a really brutal, unspeakable way. “We have video footage of our suspect at the restaurant where he worked with our victim, arming himself with a fixed blade knife, taking a pair of black latex gloves, taking a water bottle, and then off he goes with the intent to do harm and kill the victim.” Investigators believe Cedillos-Campos siphoned gas from a motorcycle and filled the water bottle in a failed attempt to set her body on fire. They say the CCTV suggests Cedillos-Campos had the “intent to do harm and kill the victim”, adding that it was “all very premeditated”. Davis said: “The way that she was treated by this killer was reprehensible.” Cedillos-Campos was arrested in Prince George’s County on August 19 and allegedly tried to run from officers. He faces a charge of second-degree murder and is being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 30, according to court records. In April 2024, Cedillos-Campos illegally crossed into the US near El Paso, Texas but was detained by the US Border Patrol. He was taken into custody by Customs and Border Protection but later released. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said: “Biden and Mayorkas hand-delivered alleged killer Cedillos-Campos to the streets of Fairfax County. “They recklessly unleashed millions of unvetted illegal aliens into American communities and abused the law to do so.” However, Davis said that Cedillos-Campos’s immigration status “plays no role in how they conduct their investigations”.
