Michail Antonio reveals he has no memory of horror car crash but still suffers terrifying nightmares about it

MICHAIL ANTONIO says he has no memory of his horrific car crash – but the Watford striker is still haunted by a recurring nightmare. But West Ham’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer has revealed he was regularly woken up by a recurring nightmare during his recovery. Sign up for the Football newsletter Thank you! Antonio told the Telegraph: “I’m driving on the road, and then a van swerves in front of me, and I swerve the van, then I jump out of my sleep. “And that’s the only part that’s come to me. But I don’t know if that’s true or not because it could just be a nightmare. So that’s why I’ve not really come out and told anybody else about it. “As much as it happened to me, I didn’t really live it because I don’t remember it. “My family lived it more than me because I didn’t actually get to experience it. They saw the car crash, had to go to the hospital and see me lying there. “I don’t remember being in the hospital. So it’s my family telling me how I was when I was there. “It’s so difficult to sometimes speak to them because they have such a vivid memory of it, and I don’t.” Most read in Sport SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET UP TO £100 BONUS Antonio joined Watford on a free transfer earlier this month, following a short-lived stint with Qatari side Al-Sailiya. He is still waiting to make his Hornets debut after being an unused sub in their loss to Stoke and failing to make the matchday squad against Bristol City. And Antonio, who was brutally released by West Ham last year, reckons therapy played a key role in the desperate fight to revive his career. The Conference League winner added: “I honestly believe that therapy is important for every single person in the world. “You go through periods of your life where you feel like you need to adapt. “There should be a therapy regime where it’s mandatory at every age. At the age of ten, you’re thinking about going to secondary school. Age of sixteen – do I want to go to college? “As an adult, are you in the job that you are happy with? Then 60, think about retirement. These are all parts of your life where changes are happening. “It makes you a happier person when you’ve worked out and got your own answers. When someone gives you the answers, it just feels unfulfilling because it’s too easy.” Antonio was last week banned from driving for six months after being found guilty of failing to identify the person behind the wheel when his Lamborghini was involved in a suspected motoring offence last November.
